D&D 5e und Hexcrawl/Sandboxing zusammenbringen?

Meine Gruppe will D&D 5e und will Kampagnentyp Sandbox oder Hexcrawl spielen. Dafür ist aber D&D 5e nicht ganz so gut geeignet. Wie bring ich beides zusammen?
Ich könnte Das Grab der Verdammnis oder Rappan Athuk anbieten. Hätte aber gerne weitere Vorschläge und Hilfen. Dungeoncrawl alleine ist nicht so gefragt.
