Prompt:
Write me an extensive plotline for an adventure module for the Shadowrun 5 roleplaying system. The setting should be Seattle
Title: Turf Wars
Background
Tensions have been rising between the major gangs in Seattle as they battle for control over lucrative smuggling routes and BTL (Better Than Life) drug markets. The player characters, a team of shadowrunners, are hired by one of the smaller gangs, the Redd Scars, to help them gain an edge in the brewing gang war.
Act 1: Meeting the Redd Scars
The runners are contacted by Crank, a dwarf rigger and lieutenant in the Redd Scars go-gang based in Redmond
15
. He wants to hire them for a series of jobs to strike at rival gangs.
The team meets with Crank and the Redd Scars leader Rusto at their hideout. They learn the Scars are losing ground to the Ancients, a powerful elf go-gang, and the Cutters, a Yakuza-affiliated gang
16
.
Crank offers the runners ¥20,000 each for their help, with a ¥50,000 bonus if they can cripple the Ancients' and Cutters' operations enough for the Scars to expand.
Act 2: Hitting the Ancients
Their first target is an Ancients chop shop in Tacoma where the elves boost and strip cars and bikes
16
. The Scars want it destroyed and the mechanics killed as a message.
The runners must infiltrate the shop, place explosives, and escape before detonating them. They may need to contend with magical security from the Ancients' mages.
Afterwards, an Ancients lieutenant named Slice confronts them and warns revenge is coming. The runners must decide whether to take him out preemptively.
Act 3: Cutting Off the Cutters
Next, the team hits a Cutters BTL drug lab in the Barrens, flooding the streets with novacoke and bliss
16
. Crank wants the lab destroyed and its chemists extracted for the Scars.
The runners assault the drug lab, which is protected by heavily cybered Yakuza thugs. They'll need to grab the chemists in the chaos.
The Cutters track the chemists to the Scars and launch an attack on their hideout in retaliation. The runners must help Rusto and Crank defend against the Yakuza onslaught.
Act 4: The Powder Keg Ignites
The jobs have weakened the Ancients and Cutters enough for the Redd Scars to make a play for their turf. Crank offers the runners a cut to help them in an all-out attack.
As gang warfare erupts across Redmond, Puyallup and Tacoma, the runners must help the Scars defeat the Ancients in a high-speed bike battle downtown and the Cutters in a brutal gunfight in the Barrens
17
.
But the collateral damage draws the attention of Lone Star and corporate security. The runners and Scars must escape the crackdown on the war-torn streets.
Aftermath
If successful, the Redd Scars become the dominant gang in Redmond and reward the runners handsomely, possibly even offering them membership.
The defeated Ancients and Cutters may seek revenge on the runners. Meanwhile, the chaos has allowed other threats like insect spirits or blood mages to gain a foothold, plotting behind the scenes.
The runners' notoriety for instigating the gang war brings them to the attention of other criminal factions and Mr. Johnsons, drawing them into the dark underbelly of Seattle.
This gang warfare storyline provides ample opportunities for combat, intrigue, and tough choices as the runners navigate the violent criminal politics of Seattle. Additional plot threads and twists, like double-crosses or meddling megacorps, can be woven in based on the gamemaster's plans and players' actions.
Prompt:
Could you write an extensive plotline for a follow-up adventure based on the premise that the runners are successful in this modul? It should incorporate at least one major plot-twist and have tie-ins to this module.
Here is an extensive plotline for a follow-up Shadowrun 5 adventure module set in Seattle that incorporates personal vendettas, gang territory expansion, and a major plot twist, with tie-ins to the previous "Turf Wars" module:
Title: Vendetta
## Background
- In the aftermath of "Turf Wars", the Redd Scars have become the dominant gang in Redmond, with the player characters as their top shadowrunner allies.
- However, remnants of the Ancients and Cutters, led by Slice and a mysterious Yakuza boss, have regrouped in Puyallup and are plotting revenge against the Scars and the runners.
- Meanwhile, the Scars are looking to expand their turf into Tacoma and the Ork Underground, putting them in conflict with the Spikes gang and the Koshari Mafia[1][4].
## Act 1: Retribution
- Slice and the Ancients ambush Rusto and critically injure him. The runners must rescue Rusto and get him to a street doc.
- Clues point to Slice hiding out in Puyallup. The team must infiltrate Slice's hideout to capture him for interrogation.
- Under questioning, Slice reveals the Yakuza are backing the Ancients/Cutters and are the real power behind the vendetta. He arranges a meeting with the Yakuza boss before being executed by Crank.
## Act 2: Expansion
- Rusto tasks the runners with weakening the Spikes' and Koshari's hold on Tacoma and the Ork Underground to allow Scars' expansion.
- The team must disrupt Spike drug shipments, take over Koshari gambling dens, and defeat their top enforcers to intimidate them into surrendering turf[10].
- This draws the ire of the Koshari and Spike leaders, who put a price on the runners' heads, leading to clashes with gangers and hired shadowrunners.
## Act 3: The Yakuza Connection
- The meeting with the Yakuza boss is a trap. It's revealed to be Taka, the brother of Akira, a Yakuza lieutenant the runners killed in "Turf Wars". Taka wants revenge for his brother's death.
- Taka has hired the 86'ers, an organ-legging gang[7], to harvest the runners' cyberware and implants. The ambushed runners must escape the 86'ers.
- Investigating Taka, the runners discover he was excommunicated by the Shotozumi-gumi for his obsession with vengeance. They leak this info to the Yakuza to turn them against Taka.
## Act 4: Gang War Redux
- Taka and Slice launch an all-out assault on Redmond, with Ancients, Cutters, and hired shadowrunners, to wipe out the Scars and the runners.
- Facing being overrun, Rusto makes a devil's bargain with the Spikes and Koshari - in exchange for their aid, the Scars will give up their claims in Tacoma and the Ork Underground.
- The runners must help the allied gangs break the siege of Redmond and hunt down Taka and Slice while battling their mercenary shadowrunners in the war-torn streets.
## Aftermath
- If Taka is captured alive, he is turned over to Shotozumi-gumi for punishment. If killed, the runners become targets for Yakuza retaliation.
- The Scars' alliance with the Spikes and Koshari is tenuous. The runners must help Rusto navigate the tense new status quo and decide which side to back if the alliance shatters.
- The events have drawn the attention of Ares Macrotechnology, who see the runners as prime recruits for a new black ops team. This could be the runners' ticket out of the shadows, or a corporate leash.
This follow-up adventure expands the scope of the gang conflict while making it personal for the runners. The plot twists of Taka's vendetta and the devil's bargain alliance shake up the status quo and set the stage for future stories in the Seattle shadows.
what are some potential consequences for the players if they are successful in the module
Here are some potential consequences for the player characters if they are successful in the "Vendetta" Shadowrun adventure module:
Future Plot Hooks:
- The Shotozumi-gumi Yakuza may seek revenge on the runners for turning over or killing Taka, leading to future clashes and complications with the Yakuza. This could draw the runners into the complex underworld politics of Seattle.
- Ares Macrotechnology's interest in recruiting the runners for a black ops team could lead to lucrative but morally dubious jobs in the future. The runners will have to decide if they want to be beholden to a megacorp.
- The tenuous alliance between the Redd Scars, Spikes and Koshari could fracture, forcing the runners to pick a side in a new gang war. Their actions and allegiances in "Vendetta" will shape how the gangs view and treat them.
- Insect spirits or blood mages that gained a foothold during the chaos of the gang war may become recurring threats that the runners have to deal with, as a consequence of their destabilizing actions.
Character Progression:
- The runners will gain a substantial amount of karma, nuyen and street cred for successfully completing such an impactful series of jobs against dangerous foes like Taka and the Ancients/Cutters. This will allow them to significantly advance their skills and gear.
- Magically active runners may be able to initiate to a higher grade after such a momentous series of runs. The experience may also shape their relationship with their mentor spirit or tradition.
- Completing the jobs and defeating powerful enemies will boost the runners' professional reputation, allowing them access to higher-level contacts and jobs. They'll be seen as serious players in the Seattle shadows.
- Character-specific goals, like getting enough nuyen to clear debts or finding a rare piece of 'ware, could be achieved with the profits from these runs, leading to personal growth and changes.
In-Game Reputation:
- The runners will be known as the team that instigated the bloody gang war that tore through the Redmond Barrens. This is the kind of prime-time newsfeed infamy that few shadowrunners achieve. It will make them notorious to law enforcement and security forces.
- Successfully defeating Taka and resolving the gang war in the Redd Scars' favor will make the runners heroes to the Scars and earn them the lasting enmity of the Ancients and Cutters remnants. This could make certain districts of Seattle either very welcoming or hostile to them.
- Becoming the go-to shadowrunner allies of the Redd Scars will give the runners serious street credibility and a fearsome reputation in the criminal underworld. This cuts both ways - they'll be respected and deferred to by many, but also challenged by those seeking to make a name.
- Brokering the alliance between the Scars, Spikes and Koshari will mark the runners as influential power players and kingmakers in the gang politics of the Barrens. Their reputation will be one of shrewd operators who can get the toughest jobs done.
In summary, successfully completing the high-stakes "Vendetta" module would have a profound impact on the runners' reputations, advancement, and the political landscape of Seattle in your Shadowrun campaign. Their actions would make them prime movers and shakers in the Sixth World, with all the opportunities and dangers that entails.
