Industry Leader to do RPG Adaptation of Classic Fantasy Series
August 19, 2004--SEATTLE, WA: Green Ronin Publishing has reached an agreement with Lynn Abbey to license the fantasy shared-world series Thieves'
World®. Green Ronin will publish a series of Thieves' World® roleplaying game books beginning in the summer of 2005. The books will be the definitive game guides to the world and characters of Thieves' World® and feature material from both the original and current series.
"Thieves' World® is crying out for RPG treatment," says Green Ronin President Chris Pramas. "The setting is so rich and creative, it was practically made for fantasy roleplaying. We are honored to have the chance to bring this terrific series back to the RPG world."
"When Robert Asprin and I first created Thieves' World®, we often described our concept as Dungeons & Dragons® for people who write," commented Lynn Abbey. "Thanks to Green Ronin, the grungiest city in fantasy fiction is putting out a welcome mat for people who game."
Thieves' World® will use the d20 System, thus tapping into a network of game players millions strong. Green Ronin tops the list of d20 publishers, with such acclaimed series as Freeport: The City of Adventure, Races of Renown, and Mythic Vistas. The company recently won an Origins Award for its Black Sails Over Freeport mega-adventure and garnered 13 nominations in the prestigious GenCon & EN World RPG Awards (the "ENnies").
About Thieves' World
Thieves' World® was the bestselling and first shared-world phenomenon, selling well over a million copies of anthologies and spinoff novels detailing the exploits and intrigues of the highborn and lowborn denizens of the Sanctuary, a fantasy city like no other. TOR Books recently re-launched Thieves' World® with the novel Sanctuary and the all-new anthologies Turning Points (December 2002) and Enemies of Fortune (December 2004). More Thieves' World® books are forthcoming.
