GURPS in 2007
You have likely already encountered SJ's Report to the Stakeholders, and noted the status of the GURPS 2007 releases - that is, we're planning to release two hardcover books (plus Ultra-Tech, which belonged in 2006 but was delayed) and a number of PDF books.
What does this mean for GURPS as a line? Most importantly, this is a change, not an ending! The GURPS line remains profitable, and one Steve Jackson Games is dedicated to supporting for many, many years. Sadly, we find ourselves understaffed, and, with limited resources, hard decisions must be made. (And yes, we are rebuilding staff, but to maintain product quality during the training period, we're doing it cautiously, one hire at a time.)
GURPS Martial Arts and GURPS High-Tech will be 240-page hardcovers, but they are not the only support scheduled for 2007. e23 will feature a wide variety of GURPS Fourth Edition material from Steve Jackson Games, from short catalogs (covering, for instance, psionic equipment) to long rules expansions (such as for vehicle design).
As of January 2007, Hans-Christian Vortisch's SEALS in Vietnam is nearing completion. William Stoddard's GURPS Supers is wrapping up its playtest. David Pulver's Vehicle Design is being edited. We are very close to signing contracts for series covering fantastic races, spaceships, horrible creatures, and psionics as everything from a genre to settings to equipment! Overall, we're ramping up to release literally dozens of new products in 2007.
And Sean "Dr. Kromm" Punch will continue to oversee the line, maintaining the consistency and quality in both research and writing that you expect.
So what does the Stakeholder's Report mean for GURPS in 2007? Formats may change, but GURPS continues, maintaining the quality you know, and expanding to cover new genres of gaming.
