Hi,
sorry I only saw your entry in my thread now.
I have a lot of work going on at the moment, so i cant focus on RPG or TT.
But hell I have questions and perhaps you can help me find the answers.
My Problem what I explained iabove is that I have a warhammer Campaign with a mix of economy simulation, wargaming and RPG (Hero System) going on.
The background is warhammer but the wargaming rules are a bit shitty, so I search for a system that simulate a battle better then warhammer does at the moment.
My issues with warhammer so far.
- Inconsistent Movement rules (rough terrain, roll for movment etc.)
- Magic is hitting far to heavy
- The attributes are very close together, between my human noble (PC) and the elven fighter (PC) is nearly no difference
- This d6... is quite not nice for scaling
Can you explain how youre system can help me to fix my issues?
Thx for youre help!
Best regards,
Dan
Hi Dan!
It seems I missed your reply also. I think I've signed up for notifications of this thread now so hopefully I'll get an email next time.
I'll do my best to address the points you have raised.
Inconsistent movement rules:
With Realm I opted for a somewhat forgiving movement system. Movement itself if very simple and straightforward, it doesn't attempt to recreate genuine battlefield manoeuvres, which I find too cumbersome for a fantasy game. Movement should be simple and fun, not a chore.
Magic is too heavy hitting:
There is still some balancing issues I'm working on with magic at the moment, but with the current system, I should be able to achieve exactly what I want with magic. Magic in Realm is generally supportive, rather than destructive. It is also reactive, all magic is cast *after* a situation occurs, so there isn't any guesswork required. Also in the latest update (which has not been officially released yet), players are free to choose their spells as they see fit, there is no randomising or being lucky and getting the 'good' spell before the battle.
Attributes between races are too similar:
I guess this remains somewhat an issue in Realm. An Elf is similar to a Dwarf who is similar to a Human. It is mitigated however by the d10 system, allowing a greater range of values. Each unit available in the game has a set of special rules further individualising each one.
d6 is not great for scaling:
Realm uses a d10 system, which makes sense to me on a number of levels.
Hope that helps.
Scott.
