Deluxe Edition
Harlan:
Elan
Kardohan:
--- Zitat von: Enno ---Elan: It has to be noted that the core rules' Elan is Holy Fire in Necropolis.
--- Ende Zitat ---
We have an Elan Edge as well, although the mechanics are different. Actually, the Holy Fire and SWD Elan effects are also different. I agree it probably needs a note to clarify things, but that's a small PDF. :)
--- Zitat ---Leadership Edges: As these edges become available to every "subordinate" (including WCs and player characters), the Rephaim become much more powerful. And this bonus is carried over to subcommanders, that make use of the main commanders leadership edges usable by them...
And now consider a rephaim commander with Command, Inspire and Natural Leader...
--- Ende Zitat ---
Whether or not the new ruling applies in Necropolis is going to have to be a GM choice. Some players seem to like it, others don't, but it's not for us to force their hand and say only one way is right. What works for the villains works for the heroes as well. I think the Leadership Edges debate will roll on across the fora for many months yet. :) I also haven't tested it in play.
Diverting to HF slighty, this change does make Knights Hrafn more powerful. But generically, I'm not sure how "subordinates" is supposed to work in play. Do they need to follow the leader's specific order to qualify for the Edge benefits? How does that work if the leader has a lower action card and hasn't yet issued any orders?
--- Zitat ---Guts or Spirit: I assume that Guts is still used!?
--- Ende Zitat ---
Yep. It'll technically be a setting rule, as per p. 25 of SWD.
--- Zitat ---AoE Weaponry/Personal armor: ALL AoE weapons can have raises now, so grenade launchers, flamethrowers, Hades pistols etc become much more dangerous. More dice to possibly explode, and a higher average. On the other hand the values for personal armor did not rise... and often don't count anyway because of Armor Piercing.
--- Ende Zitat ---
PEG obviously feels that's an acceptable change to the core rules. If PEG updates Weird Wars to negate the rule, we'll look at it. Otherwise, it's just one every setting is going to have to deal with.
--- Zitat ---Shaken/Suppressive fire: Because of the changes in leadership edges, and shaken characters now have their normal pace, suppressive fire becomes pretty much useless against Rephaim. Undead recover from shaken very fast anyhow, faster even due to the new leadership rule, but shaken at least slowed them down for a while. That isn't the case anymore...
--- Ende Zitat ---
That now applies to any monster. Undead (of any type) benefit most, but Combat Reflexes and Command also make suppressive fire next to useless.
--- Zitat ---I know, that every new core rules version sets a new tone in the game (i smell a more military-structured approach in this one), but some changes can cause considerable headaches in settings that were primarily written with older rules in mind, like Necropolis.
--- Ende Zitat ---
Not sure I'd go "more military-structured." More like "computer game mentality." :)

Until GenCon comes and I've had chance to read the new book (I don't like reading PDF rulebooks) and my group has copies nothing is going to change much. Same reason the HF PDF will be months away -- lots to read and mull over to see how it changes things, and little time to do it.
--- Zitat ---But let's wait for a few months how things work out.
--- Ende Zitat ---
And for the errata document from PEG. :)
Wiggy
--- Ende Zitat ---
--- Zitat von: TAG Wiggy ---The changes to SWD require us to go through every line and not just read it as gamers, but analyze it as designers. We have to look at every entry and rule to see how it might have changed. For instance, Hellfrost isn't high fantasy in that the heroes are living gods -- they're heroes trying to survive a harsh world. Allowing Elan and Iron Jaw (or perhaps just one of them), changes the whole feel of the game. Maybe we just ignore them. Maybe we up the requirements. Or make them Glory rewards only.
Once I have SWD in my hands (as opposed to on my screen), have played a few of the changed rules, and can find the time to read it we'll be putting out a PDF of how SWD changes things. But that is going to be after GenCon at the earliest. We'd rather do it right than do it fast. Smile
But if you're wondering if we're going to be printing a new SWD version, then not anytime soon.

Selganor [n/a]:
